Over the past few years, we’ve reported on the acquisition and overhaul of former NS class 1800s/1700s by Strukton several times. Upon the project’s announcement, the ultimate goal was to develop a battery-electric conversion – so Strukton would not depend entirely on power from overhead lines. On 12.04.2022, after years of anticipation, Strukton finally announced the conversion of locomotive 1824 ‘Nicole’, with testing starting in 2022.
