[FREE / design] The Coop Vectron

Time flies: it’s already been more than seven years since Siemens delivered seven Vectron AC locomotives to Swiss logistics provider railCare. These machines came with a rather unique configuration: type B22, approved for Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, and equipped with a last-mile shunting module (DPM) – perfect for operating on non-electrified sidings.

The locomotives didn’t attract much attention on the rails design-wise. That’s likely due to their neutral white livery, featuring only railCare’s green-grey logo—nothing flashy, just solid and efficient.

Since 2010, railCare has been part of the Coop Group, offering logistics solutions within and outside the Coop network. They focus on unaccompanied combined transport (UCT)—road and rail transport combinations. The entire logistics chain, from terminal services to transport operations and forwarding, is handled in-house.

Each of the seven locomotives was given a unique name and a small coat of arms on the front.

This past week, it became clear that the anonymous existence of the Vectrons is ending. In 2024, the first powerful six-axle locomotives of the Euro9000 type joined railCare’s fleet, sporting the colours and branding of parent company Coop, a well-known name both in Switzerland and abroad. It’s now evident that this livery will also be applied to the Vectrons.
