[Press release] The Smiling Train: Arenaways and Railcolor Design present new livery at InnoTrans 2024

Berlin, September 24th, 2024—Arenaways officially presents the livery that will be adopted by the ATR 220 trains in service in the Piedmont region, Italy, from January 7th, 2025.

Happy to be in service and eager to welcome passengers on board, the Arenaways trains will always enter the stations… with a smile! The brand-centered concept developed by Railcolor Design is characterized by a white smile on a blue background on the front of the engine under the Company’s logo.

On a light background, the orange-yellow logo is magnified, creating a recognizable shape that results in a continuous connection along the entire train. The bands in blue frame it, the secondary colour of the logo. The primary logo is found at the bottom, while the wi-fi icon on top reminds passengers that internet and infotainment are available for free on all Arenaways trains.

A key aspect of the design was the identifiability of the accesses and the different areas of the train to make them stand out even on crowded platforms. A dark blue background highlights the orange-yellow doors. To be easily recognizable even from afar, the areas dedicated to people with reduced mobility and those for bike storage are marked with contrasting colour fields – in light blue and aqua green, respectively – and visible icons on the upper side of the carriage.

The liveries—made with films designed for greater resistance to severe weather conditions—will be applied during the autumn on the ATR 220 trains, which will begin service on the Cuneo-Saluzzo-Savigliano route on January 7th, 2025.

Matteo Arena, CEO Arenaways: “Just like our trains, we are happy with the livery designed by Railcolor Design. Our main desire is to make the stay on board pleasant for all passengers, whether it is a journey of a few minutes or hours. A different travel experience must start from a different image of the train… and we hope that the people on the platforms will always smile back at our trains!”.

Simon Wijnakker, Creative director of Railcolor Design: “During the design process with our team, we have held onto a few key design principles we have established with Arenaways: Firstly, the design needs to be in your face for example, with the brand coming first. Secondly, a well-rounded self-confident design was created that is easily applicable to many train types, as we want the design to be able to grow with Arenaways’ expansion plans. Lastly, and most importantly, the user has been at the center of the design efforts, being easily guided to the right doors through colors and markings. This livery will make Arenaways ready for the future.”
