In 2016 lease company Angel Trains ordered a total of 19 hybrid trains for TransPennine Express (TPE). Now, Nova 1 is getting its TPE livery.
Edit: We initially reported that two units are wearing the TPE livery. It turns out only 802 201 is, while 802 202 is still in factory paint.
It is not a surprise – we already saw this design in the preliminary renders, published after the contract was signed. But now it is real: the ‘Nova 1’ (Hitachi Rail type AT300) was seen in public for the first time sporting its striking TPE livery.

Hitachi Rail Europe published photographs of the freshly stickered ‘802 201’ seen in Manchester Piccadilly station. Yesterday, the unit was running tests after it received its livery at Doncaster depot.

Arriving later in 2019, the Nova 1 trains will be used between the cities of Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh. This is how the first train traveled from Japan to the UK.
