In September 2024, TransPennine, Angel Trains, and Hitachi Rail deployed a Nova 1 train for testing on the United Kingdom’s public rail network. Initial results have now been released:

Advancing to high-speed testing
Since announcing plans in 2021, TransPennine, Angel Trains, and Hitachi Rail have been working on fitting batteries on a Class 802 / Nova 1 unit, replacing one of its diesel packs. Low-speed testing commenced in May 2024 at Hitachi Rail’s Newton Aycliffe facility, where the unit operated successfully in battery mode. With positive results on the test track, the train progressed to public rail network trials in September 2024.
