In 2018, Transport for Wales (TfW) contracted KeolisAmey for the Wales and Border franchise. KeolisAmey ordered new rolling stock with Stadler, CAF, and Vivarail. Five years later, the UK rail world has changed quite significantly: Covid-19 came and went, operators could not run trains, authorities were enabling services to be kept running, and administrators were called in for one of the rolling stock manufacturers: Vivarail. Earlier last week, the Vivarail-built class 230 hybrid trains finally entered service on Wales’ Borderlands Line.
