[FR / Expert] X’Trapolis Cityduplex – IDFM RER NG – the first steps

One of the first, if not the first, Alstom/Bombardier X’Trapolis Cityduplex suburban EMUs (named ‘RER NG’ by french national rail operator SNCF) has been seen hauled across France, as a dead unit.

71 of these trains were ordered in 2017 by the Île-de-France regional transport authority (Île-de-France Mobilités, IDFM) for use on lines D and E of Paris’ suburban railway network, operated by SNCF on behalf of IDFM. The order is part of a frame contract that could go up to 371 trains if all options are taken up. In 2018, the final external and interior designs of the new French-built trains were presented officially.
