[DE] The design of the Alpha Trains Desiro ML for ODEG [updated]

No yellow, no green, nothing of that. We expected ODEG would give its new Desiro ML EMUs, leased via Alpha Trains, its normal corporate colors, but did not happen. Unit 4746 301 and 302 were placed into service in its simple base livery, a plain light grey, upgraded a little using ODEG logos and if you look carefully, blue markings saying ’30 years of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’.

The German state celebrates its 30th birthday and the colors of these small logos hint to a design change that was first seen on 4746 303. This set for Alpha Trains > ODEG got the same light grey base paint but with four blue, diagonally placed sections.

303 completed its acceptance run, which took place between Wien-Floridsdorf and Pöchlarn on 27.02.2020 and started its transfer to the north-eastern region in Germany one day later. The 4746s for ODEG do this under their own power. Meanwhile 304, 305 and 305 have joined the fleet in the same blue/light grey design.

Siemens is currently delivering seven new Desiro ML sets for Alpha Trains > ODEG. These replace 4746 051-056 that were hired by ODEG from ÖBB in December 2019.
