[IT] STA reveals the colourful Talent 3 for Bolzano – Alto Adige / Südtirol

Our Expert subscribers got the news first: Bombardier will be delivering 7 Talent 3 multi-system EMUs to Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige / Südtiroler Transportstrukturen (STA) from the Italian Autonomous Province of Bolzano – Alto Adige / Bozen – Südtirol. Today, the exterior design of the trains was officially revealed during an official press conference in Bolzano:

Officials from the Italian autonomous province, STA, and railway vehicle manufacturer Bombardier Transportation celebrated the launch of the long-term sustainable mobility plan for Italy’s most northern region.

In the center of attention: the design of the seven Talent 3 multisystem EMUs ordered for cross-border services between Italy and Austria. The order has an estimated value of EUR 64.1 million, 3.7 of which have already been secured from the State Fund for Development and Cohesion. It is part of a framework contract including options for up to 32 trains of the type, as well as fleet maintenance services for up to 30 years.

“The new trains meet all the needs of future passengers. They have modern equipment, they are accessible for everyone, they have space for sports equipment, and they will operate with the power systems here and beyond the Brenner pass. This is another important step towards more attractive local public transport in South Tyrol.” – Martin Ausserdorfer, President of STA

According to Daniel Alfreider, Vice President and Regional Minister of Mobility and Infrastructures for the Autonomous region, the connections with the new trains, from Venosta to Trento, Innsbruck, and Lienz, is a concrete sign of international cooperation. Mr. Alfreider also added that the project marks a significant milestone in the plan for long-term sustainable and high-quality alpine mobility for the entire European region. Helping people to take the train instead of the car is a key goal for both public and international transport in the six.

Curious fact: Austria’s ÖBB has also ordered six such trainsets for use in the South Tyrol region, also for cross-border traffic to Italy.

Design

At Railcolor, we pay extra attention to design. This is why we wanted to highlight the new livery of the EMUs. The colors are taken from the corporate identity of South Tyrol’s marketing platform for tourism. You may know these from the FLIRT trains that are operated in the same region. However, instead of grey/silver, green will now be the most dominant color.
