Bombardier will supply seven Talent3 EMUs to Südtiroler Transportstrukturen (STA). With the 3-system trains, it will be possible to introduce direct train services between Innsbruck, Bolzano, and Mals.
Bombardier’s offer in this public tender was valued at exactly 64,165,717 EUR. For this amount seven Talent3 EMus will be delivered that can run under 15kV AC, 25kV AC and 3kV DC. As such, the trains can be used in Austria, Italy, through the BBT (Brenner-Basis-Tunnel) and the Vinschger, which is currently being reconstructed and electrified with 25kV AC.
STA is working on a new time table for its network in South Tyrol that will come into effect in December 2021:
- After completing the electrification of the Vinschger Bahn – new direct, hourly connections between Innsbruck, Bolzano, and Mals will be introduced;
- The hourly direct trains Franzensfeste – Innichen – Lienz are to be continued;
- With the completion of the Riggertalschleife, a new direct rail link bridging the Riggertal, the axis Mals – Bolzano – Innichen – Lienz should be tied through.
The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have similar 3-system trains on order.
Railcolor: you may know trains from this region, as many of these sport this multi-color livery, with silver-painted bodies and colorful roof panels.
