A-Train AB, operator of Sweden’s Arlanda Express, has ordered seven FLIRT EMUs from Stadler, with an option for one additional unit. The new fleet, to be manufactured at Stadler’s St. Gallen Rhine Valley facility, will enter service between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station by the end of 2029.
Each 165-metre train will offer 323 seats—more than a 50% increase in capacity compared to the current fleet (Alstom Coradia from the late nineties). The vehicles are tailored to Nordic conditions and equipped with features such as dual boarding heights (1.150 mm and 760 mm), barrier-free access, luggage storage, and dedicated seating areas. Their maximum speed will be 200 km/h.

Design
The FLIRTs are customised to the requirements and wishes of A-Train AB. E.g. the interior design of the trains takes up the Nordic style of the A-Train Lounge at Stockholm Central Station. There are different seating areas, such as lounge sofa seats for group travellers or signature seating areas for a quiet and relaxing journey.
