[Design] Alppiercer Alarm: New special designs for SBB Cargo International

The keen observer may have noticed that two Vectrons (193 452 and 193 459) of the new Alppiercer 3 ‘Xload’ series for SBB Cargo International / Südleasing hadn’t received stickers yet. But the series is now complete, introducing two special designs: the ‘Deutschlandpiercer’ and ‘Schweizpiercer’.

Both designs are meant to celebrate their respective countries, much like the earlier introduced ‘Hollandpiercer’. The colourful artwork in both versions has been combined with the standard grey livery of the Alppiercer 3 series.

193 459 > The ‘Deutschlandpiercer’

The ‘Deutschlandpiercer’ (or Germanypiercer) features the Brandenburg Gate as its main focal point, named ‘Bundestag, Berlin’. Other elements include various landmarks around Germany, such as the Fernsehturm (Berlin), Bauhaus (Dessau), Kölner Dom (Cologne), Frauenkirche (Dresden), and many more…

The composition is tied together using the colours of the German flag: Black, Red, and Yellow/gold. The lower lines found around the length of the locomotive also depict the German flag, using gold foil to create an even more accurate depiction.

193 452 > The ‘Schweizpiercer’

The ‘Swisspiercer’ prominently features a glacier ending in a glacial lake. A typical Swiss mountain house on the shoreline can be found, with cows grazing in the alp meadows. A steamship, typically found on the larger Swiss lakes, can be seen on its journey. In the background, a stylised version of Bern was created, next to the iconic ‘Rheinfall’ in northern Switzerland. (Extra points to the person who can spot the SBB Re460 in the artwork!).

A palette of mainly reds and whites has been used to stay true to the colours of the Swiss flag.
