[locomotive] Call-off order number 8: Final Vectron order by ÖBB

It has been a year since ÖBB decided, for the seventh time, to place an order for Vectron locomotives with Siemens. Now, the time has come for the eighth and final order of these four-axle locomotives by the Austrian Federal Railways. With this, ten years after the tenders for this project were first published, the total number of 200 locomotives will indeed be reached. Siemens has until April 30, 2027, to complete this final order, which is valued at over 143 million euros. A list:

The first three batches resulted in 108 locomotives – 2017-2020:

Then there was a longer break – in 2023, it continued with four more orders:

  • Batch 5: 10x version A35 = ÖBB 1293 086-095;
  • Batch 6: 28x version A35 = ÖBB 1293 096-123; first ones with ETCS BL3 caused some delay in delivery.
  • Batch 7: 20x = ÖBB 1293 124-143; currently under delivery – first machines in service – theoretically assigned to ÖBB’s passenger department

Ordered in March 2025 – to be delivered by 30.04.2027:

Current developments

At the moment, Siemens is outshopping new ÖBB machines rapidly. On April 13, 2025, 1293 125, 127, 133, 136, and 141 were on the move from Braunschweig to Munich, so for these machines, handover is upon them. Of btach 7, the first 4 machines are already in service.
