Denmark’s first battery-powered train has arrived in Lemvig and was welcomed by Midtjyske Jernbaner’s leadership, employees, partners, and enthusiasts. Despite the cold night, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, curiosity, and pride. This historic moment marks a significant step toward sustainable rail transport in Denmark:

Seven trains to come
In 2022, Midtjyske Jernbaner (MJBA) announced the winner of its battery train tender: the Siemens Mireo+B. This made the operator the first in its country to order battery-electric multiple units (=BEMU). Seven units will operate in West Jutland, on the connections Holstebro – Skjern and Vemb – Lemvig – Thyborøn.
The contract between MJBA and Siemens Mobility was officially signed on 08.04.2022.

A smart Siemens Mireo+B
Officially, Midtjyske Jernbaner gets the Siemens Mireo+B based on the Smart version, a product announced in 2020 as the standardized version of Siemens’ regional and suburban train platform, aiming for attractive pricing and faster delivery. Other tech specs are:
- Capacity: 120 seated passengers; 282 including maximum number of standees.
- Top speed: 140 km/h;
- Battery operation autonomy: 80-120 km;
- Battery based on lithium-titanium technology;
- Top acceleration: 1,1 ms2
- Charging: Three 25 kV AC charging stations in Lemvig, Holstebro, and Skjern – Two 1,000 Volt charging sockets in Lemvig and Vemb.
- Catenary (the trains will have pantographs), as well as by recuperation
The trains are delivered in white – and will get an orange-red livery design created by OnTrack: Creativity for Railways and Railcolor Design:
