[FREE / passenger] Spain’s Alstom Stream turns orange

On January 10, 2025, Spain’s Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, announced that new high-capacity Rodalies trains manufactured by Alstom in Barcelona will complete certification this year, with commercial service starting in 2026. The trains, part of a €1.8 billion contract for 201 units, are designed to improve capacity and efficiency, accommodating up to 900 passengers with features like wider doors and vestibules.

The rollout will be gradual, with two trains added weekly over four years, enhancing service across Spain. Alstom’s trains will initially have six cars, scalable to meet demand, and include accessibility features, WiFi, and space for bicycles and luggage. These trains are energy-efficient, with over 98% recyclability. Additionally, €850 million has been invested in Catalonia for transport improvements, with half directed toward Rodalies.
