The new electric locomotives (25kV 50Hz AC) are designed to operate in extreme winter conditions down to -40ºC, with features for snow and ice. Built in Valencia, they support Lithuania’s 1,520-mm gauge rail network, providing 500 kN of tractive effort, up to 6.15 MW power, and a 120 km/h maximum speed. Equipped with regenerative braking and SA3 automatic couplers, the locomotives align with Europe’s goals of greener transport and longer freight trains.
Driver cabs are designed for comfort, safety, and visibility, with ergonomic controls, video surveillance (CCTV), and onboard restrooms.
Stadler’s Executive VP Iñigo Parra emphasized the importance of this project in promoting rail transport. LTG Cargo CEO Eglė Šimė highlighted that the electric locomotives will improve sustainability and efficiency, reducing costs and environmental impact on Lithuania’s busiest freight corridor between Vilnius and Klaipėda.
