[FREE / passenger] Arenaways welcomes international partners: Renfe and Serena take 33% share each

At the InnoTrans event in Berlin in September 2024, Arenaways proudly showcased its new livery for the ATR 220 trains, designed by Railcolor Design. These sleek trains are set to begin operations in Italy’s picturesque Piedmont region in January 2025. Adding to the excitement, Arenaways announced two prominent new partners: Renfe Proyectos Internacionales and Serena Industrial Partners, who have each acquired a 33% minority stake in the company.

A new era for Arenaways

Eight months after announcing reviving the long-closed Cuneo-Saluzzo-Savigliano rail line, Arenaways Longitude Holding is strengthening its foundation with these international investments. Renfe Proyectos Internacionales and Serena Industrial Partners, both leaders in their fields, bring global expertise and financial strength to support Arenaways’ mission of revitalizing regional rail in Italy.

Also, with its new international stakeholders, Arenaways remains firmly rooted in its Italian identity, with headquarters in Turin. Matteo Arena continues as General Manager, while Inmaculada Gutiérrez Carrizo has been appointed President of the Board. Meanwhile, company founder Giuseppe Arena has been honoured as Honorary Chairman, a nod to his legacy in Italian rail.

Founded in 2021, the new Arenaways aims to reconnect Italy’s regions through sustainable and efficient rail services. Starting in January 2025, the company will run 14 daily trains on the Savigliano-Saluzzo-Cuneo route. Looking ahead, Arenaways plans to reopen the Ceva-Ormea line by 2028 with ten daily services and is exploring expansion to other underserved lines across Italy. Additionally, it is planning for intercity connections across Italy, linking the northwest, northeast, and North-central-southwest regions.
