The West Route in Trier, once used only for freight trains, will soon welcome passenger trains again. Starting March 3, 2025, regional trains will run on the newly upgraded line. This €60 million project, led by Deutsche Bahn (DB), Rhineland-Palatinate, the city of Trier, and the SPNV Nord transport association, includes upgrades to the rail network between Wittlich and Igel. It also involves building five new train stations and two railway bridges. The project’s primary goal is to improve connections between Trier, Luxembourg, and nearby areas.
