[data] All the trains of Trenitalia in new Intercity design

Some months ago, Trenitalia unveiled the new livery of its Intercity brand. Did we say livery? Maybe it is better to say liveries, as there are several variations. The time has come to take stock of Trenitalia’s repainted IC and why not all trains look the same:

Three liveries… for the price of one!

When Trenitalia decided to give its Intercity brand a new look, it decided to create three similar schemes: one for Intercity Giorno trains (white and light blue), one for Intercity Notte trains (blue and light blue), and a “mixed” one for locomotives that could be used to push-pull both types of trains (white, blue and light blue). So Intercity Giorno affects, at least so far, the E.401s and the E.414s locomotives, Intercity Night the E.402Bs and the E.403s locomotives, and the “mixed” one the E.464s locomotives.

Class E.401 locomotives

We begin our list with the rebuilt single-cab locomotives E.401s. To date, five of Trenitalia’s latest single-cab units are in Intercity Giorno livery:

  • E.401.009, .017, .018, .038 and .043.

The Group comprises 40 locomotives, so more than 10% has changed colour.

Class E.402B locomotives

We then continue with E.402Bs locomotives. Concerning these ‘theoretically’ multi-voltage locomotives, there are currently six units in Intercity Notte colours:

  • E.402B.102, .120, .125, .126, .130 and .135.

In this case, talking about a percentage makes little sense because it is unknown how many will receive the new scheme.

Class E.403 locomotives

We go even higher and come to E.403s locomotives. In the case of these unlucky locomotives, the count is straightforward since, so far, only one unit has joined the new Intercity Notte brand:

  • E.403.008.

With 23 existing locos —E.403.010 was scrapped after an accident in the depot of Roma San Lorenzo—we are really in the early days.

Class E.414 locomotives

We then come to a somewhat ‘sui generis’ locomotive, the E.414s. These were built to haul single-voltage ETR 500 and then modified to haul “normal” coaches. As of today, eight out of 59 units have been repainted:

  • E.414.105, .109, .110, .119, .126, .127, .132 and .158.

From the list, E.414.112 was excluded and scrapped following the accident in Acquaviva delle Fonti on 23.10.2005.

E.464s locomotives

Finally, we come to E.464s locomotives, another Group of which it is unclear how many units will get the new colour scheme. To date, there are nine units in the latest “mixed” Intercity livery – as there is both light and dark blue:

  • E.464.173, .210, .238, .252, .256, .260, .344, .422 and .436.

For completeness of information, since they left the factory already with the new Intercity Giorno colour scheme, it is also worth mentioning the seven HybridCity assigned to the Calabria Region:

  • HTR 412.033, .044, .046, .048, .052, .061 and .065.
