Since 10.08.2024, and for the next two weeks, part of the Rheintalbahn has been undergoing work between Rastatt and Baden-Baden. Even though this time, the blockade of this vital international freight corridor was announced well in advance, it evokes memories of the Rastatt blockade in 2017. Back then, alternative routes had to be found hastily, and it became painfully clear that rail could not cooperate (internationally) quickly and effectively. Therefore, this time, some major freight players, who are heavily dependent on this route, joined forces and made the (then) impossible possible after all – About the detour via small non-electrified lines across the Rhine in Alsace:
