[locomotive] SBB Re 460 046: Scan the QR Code and “enter” the locomotive

Today, SBB christened a locomotive at Zurich Central Station that beams you up: By scanning the QR code on the doors of the Re 460 046, you are transported into the driver’s cab thanks to augmented reality. Did we try? Of course we did!

SBB would like to publicize the training program for locomotive drivers, which will also be available on a part-time basis in the future. The locomotive with the new design is also an award for the SBB train drivers who put Switzerland in motion every day. The profession of locomotive driver will always play a decisive role in railways. That is why SBB invests heavily in locomotive personnel training and further education. Every year, between 150 and 200 new locomotive drivers complete their training.

The Re 460 046 has been painted black and its sides coated with a photograph depicting tracks at sunset. Above them is the inscription ‘The job with the most beautiful view in the world’, on one side in German and on the other one in French.

On the entrance doors, there are QR codes that, once scanned, allow one to find oneself inside the driver’s cab. By moving the smartphone, it is possible to view the entire cabin or simply see the tracks in front. Unfortunately without being able to interact with the controls.
