Since 2019, new Vossloh DE18 diesel locomotives have been delivered to Italy. Vossloh 5502366 (with ‘Tricolore’) served as the prototype to get the country’s type approval and was later joined by more machines. Yet, the DE18s have not been as active as expected – private operators don’t use them that much, making state operator Mercitalia the primary customer.
