[passenger] Dutch railways sell Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland and WestfalenBahn to BeNEX

On 23.04.2024, the news was published that investment company BeNEX, which specialises in regional rail transport, is taking over the shares in Abellio in Germany (ATH Rail Transport Beteiligungsgesellschaft Deutschland) from the Dutch state railways (NS).

The transaction includes the rail transport companies Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland, Halle (Saale), WestfalenBahn, Bielefeld, and the service company PTS in Neuss. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024, subject to competition law approvals.

The acquisition of Abellio marks an essential step towards BeNEX’s long-term goal of further expanding its range of environmentally friendly mobility services and increasing passenger numbers. With this acquisition, BeNEX’s portfolio grows to seven regional railway companies in Germany in which it holds stakes:

The Academy in Regensburg also trains train drivers throughout Germany. In addition, it supports other railway companies by providing train drivers from our in-house pool in the event of staff shortages.
