In 2021 the local transport authority of the Leipzig area, ZVNL – Zweckverband für die Nahverkehrsraum Leipzig, decided to found a vehicle pool for BEMUs. On 27.07.2023, ZNVL announced the type of train that will be ordered for this specific MDSB2025BEMU tender. Additionally, it was made public who will be their operator.
