In September of last year, Italian regional passenger transport operator Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) announced the winner of its tender for forty new narrow-gauge EMUs; Hitachi Rail. But, Stadler Rail raised an appeal and eventually, Regional Administrative Court (TAR) Campania decided in favour of the Swiss manufacturer, after inconsistencies were found in the work of the tender commission. Soon after this verdict was announced, Stadler released a press statement they will now be building the trains.
