As part of the deal to enable Alstom to buy Bombardier Transportation, the French rolling stock manufacturer had four sacrifices to make for the European Union to be happy. One of those was the divestment of its Reichshoffen factory, in eastern France to prevent an Alstom monopoly on the French railway market, currently dominated by the Alstom-Bombardier duopoly.
