Today, an Arriva-operated Stadler GTW DMU was the premiering train that welcomed passengers in an automated operation in the Dutch province of Groningen. it is the first time that passengers in the Netherlands have been on board an ATO train (GoA level 2) which can accelerate and brake automatically.
To guarantee the train’s safety, it operated under a train protection system and the supervision of a driver. The project is a cooperation between Stadler, Arriva Netherlands, ProRail and Provincie Groningen.
