French manufacturer Alstom has been selected by the Australian State of Western Australia (WA) to design, build, and deliver 41 six-car electric multiple units (EMUs) to the TransPerth commuter railway network, which spreads across the city of Perth and its surroundings.
The order was announced on the 18th August 2019 and will be finalised at the end of this year. The total value of the contract is AU$1.6 billion. This sum also includes an order for six new DMUs for the Australind line, news that we will be talking about briefly at the end of this article.
