[DE] Cleaner than ever: new Coradia Lint DMUs for ODEG

Today, Alstom officially announced it will be delivering 8 Coradia Lint trainsets to Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (ODEG). Railcolor News already informed its Expert subscribers about the upcoming order in January.

Valued at EUR 45 million approximately, the new trainsets are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2022. Operation on the Netz-Elbe-Spree is scheduled to begin with the timetable change in December that same year. Production will take place at Alstom’s site in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony (DE).

Technical specifications:

  • Power output: 1,200 kW (3x 400 kW);
  • Maximum speed: 140 km/h;
  • Consist: two cars;
  • Capacity: 140 seated passengers;
  • Number of doors: 4 on each side.

The 2-car train has 4 doors on each side – it can transport up to 12 bicycles or 6 strollers. A train also features spaces for wheelchairs and has universally accessible toilets. Additional features include WLAN access, power sockets and extra-large, real-time information displays.

Curious fact: According to Alstom, these trains will be the world’s first diesel multiple-units (DMUs) with a Stage 5 powerpack:

Curious fact 2: The three engines can be switched off individually with the help of a newly introduced engine management system for ecological and economic reasons.
