Not to self: BEMU or ‘battery electric multiple unit’. It looks like it is becoming a buzzword, we have to use it more and more. A BEMU is an electric passenger trains here with additional battery packs – the batteries are used to store and release energy – which can be used to propel the train when there are no overhead wires. The Germans name this concept ‘E/E-Hybrid’.
