As passenger numbers increase, operators need to expand their fleet in order to keep providing optimal service. This is the case of HLB (Hessische Landesbahn GmbH), which has decided to increase its Coradia Continental EMUs with five more units.
Valued at 27 million EUR, the order tops up the original contract for 30 identical Coradia Continental EMUs, which are expected to enter service this December on the Südhessen-Untermain railway network. The additional trainsets will be delivered in December 2019 and will be produced at Alstom’s site in Salzgitter in Germany. They will operate in the Frankfurt Rhine Main metropolitan area.
The four-car 160 km/h trainsets will be able to carry up to 460 passengers. The EMUs feature multi-purpose areas for wheelchairs, bicycles and strollers and are equipped with Wi-Fi, outlets for laptops, as well as a real-time passenger information system.
