A smart move of MTR Express. Riding the wave of attention for the ‘Boaty McBoatface’ naming poll in the UK, they put up the name ‘Trainy McTrainface’ for voting and it (of course!) it won. Now MTR Express unit no. 74005 actually has this name; it even wore a smile during the naming ceremony.
Peder Osterkamp, the Chief Commercial Officer of MTR Express, dubbed the train with champagne. During his speech, Osterkamp told the attendees how last summer, the Metro readers overwhelmingly voted for Trainy McTrainface as a nod to the popular Boaty McBoatface. The British authorities vetoed the name for the research vessel despite winning the majority of the votes.
After the inauguration in the Gothenburg Central Station, Trainy McTrainface rolled on smiling on its maiden voyage to Stockholm, proudly carrying its name on both sides.
Soon, Trainy will be joined by the company of Glenn, Estelle, and Lasse. On November 7th, there will be another naming ceremony in Gothenburg — this time for Glenn. Soon after, Estelle and Lasse will receive their names in Stockholm.
