[AT] Replacement for the 4020 series: ÖBB raises number of CityJets on order to 165

Railjournal reports: The ÖBB has decided to raise the number of CityJet articulated trains (Siemens Desiro ML) to 165. This means 64 sets are being added to the 101 sets that are currently under construction. The extra trains will enter service in Vienna where they will replace the aging 4020 series trains on the S-Bahn network.

Siemens built the CityJet in two different versions. The ÖBB 4744 series (70 sets) is configured for regional services. The ÖBB 4746 series (31 sets) is currently under delivery and developed specifically for the Vienna S-Bahn. We presume therefore that the new sets will be of the 4746 type.
