[RS] The newest electric locomotives for Serbia come from China

The Chinese train manufacturer CRRC has won an international tender for the supply of two electric locomotives to Serbia. The machines will comply with all relevant European technical specifications for interoperability (TSI).

The locomotives will be rated at 7 MW (continuous power) and have a maximum speed of 140 km/h. They will be used by the state energy group of the country for transporting lignite between mines and the Nikola Tesla power plants (TPP Nikola Tesla). The locos will run on a closed network with a 25kV AC voltage system. TPP Nikola Tesla currently has a fleet of around 25 diesel and electric locomotives.

Remarkable: the energy provider transports more goods by rail than the national railways of Serbia.
