Alstom has signed a contract with EMA (Entreprise Métro d’Alger), Ferrovial and the Algerian Railways (SNTF), making it possible to build Coradia Polyvalent trainsets locally. The contract is part of the Cital-project. A similar contract has already be signed for Alstom’s Citadis trams.
With signing, SNTF now joins the Cital project. The operator has stated the intention to acquire up to 98 Coradia Polyvalent trainsets. These would be of the a hybrid version (electric + diesel).
In June 2015, SNTF ordered 17 Coradia Polyvalent trains directly from Alstom.
