The original Vectron Dual Mode has a 2.4 MW diesel engine and it is also capable of running under 15 kV AC catenary – this design was presented as such in 2019. Its design is based on the Vectron DE (same length). The goal was to show that potential customers can save on diesel fuel and reduce the emissions of their locomotive in, for example, urban areas, without loosing diesel power.
