[Design] Two new G1206s for EGP in fresh paint

In recent years, it’s become increasingly common for modern locomotives to be painted in historically accurate liveries they never wore. Creative railway operators now embrace what was once more the domain of model train manufacturers. Think of a Class 101 in beige and red, a Dual Mode Light in altrot, or a EuroRunner in the colours of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

The blue with black frame and white stripe around it—used for electric locomotives of the Bundesbahn in the 1950s—is also making a comeback. TRI has a Class 111 in this livery, and EGP has now applied a similar scheme to two recently acquired G1206 shunting locomotives:

  • 98 80 0275 807-2
  • 98 80 0275 810-6

Both locomotives were built in Kiel at the former MaK factory in the late 1990s for RAG – Ruhrkohle AG. You might remember them in their original orange or later blue and silver liveries as RAG 807 and RAG 810. Following a thorough overhaul at OMB Neustrelitz, they’ve joined the fleet of ENON Gesellschaft, part of EGP’s roster.

True, EGP uses a different shade of blue. The Deutsche Bundesbahn used Stahlblau (RAL 5011) for its electrics – EGP uses its corporate colour, RAL 5005.

For these locomotives, Railcolor Design created the paint plan fitting the functional design of the G1206.
