CFR Călători’s locomotive 481 001 “Transmontana,” now adorned in a striking new livery dedicated to Nicolae Iorga, is undergoing trial runs alongside DB Cargo’s locomotive 187 172 to assess compatibility with Hungarian railway systems. LTE is actively providing personnel and technical support for these tests, which are being conducted along the corridor between Curtici and Budapest Ferencváros. (lp)

[locomotive] New customer for CZ Loko. VTGSK ordered 2 new Effishunters 1000
CZ Loko continues to succeed in acquiring new customers for its locomotives. Two EffiShunter 1000 locomotives have been ordered from the Czech manufacturer by Retrack Slovakia, which, as a subsidiary of the German VTG, serves not only Slovakia but also the Czech Republic and Hungary. The locomotives will be delivered by the manufacturer in the second half of 2025, and it is currently working on the first of them. They will also be equipped with ETCS L2 so that they can serve on Czech lines. (mp)
[passenger] A new hope for Polregio. They have received funding to buy EMUs
After a huge blow for the carrier Polregio, when it had to abandon plans to buy 200 new units from various manufacturers, comes hope for the purchase of four new units, for which the operator has been awarded funding from European funds. Polregio will buy 2 new EMUs with an option for 2 more with a capacity of 150 passengers of which 100 are seated and a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The units are to be delivered by the end of 2027. The carrier has also applied for additional funds to purchase more new units to upgrade its outdated fleet. (mp)

[locomotive] New 494 locomotives for Railpool and Ermes Rail
Alstom’s Vado Ligure facility delivered locomotives 494 708 and 494 709 to Railpool on April 1, 2025. These two units were leased by Ermes Rail, which, upon their arrival, returned locomotive 494 255 previously leased from GTS Rail. Notably, one of the newly delivered locomotives features a minor livery error – 494 709 has the Italian flag with its colors reversed on at least one side. (lp)

As of March 31, 2025, three out of the seven locomotives ordered by Rail & Truck have been delivered. The locomotives are white with black and green inscriptions and bear the numbers 91 71 6256 223-0 E-RYT, 91 71 6256 224-8 E-RYT, and 91 71 6256 225-5 E-RYT. The financing is arranged through Alpha Trains. (sw)

Sad news: After nearly nine years, Beacon Rail 185 602 has lost its Railcolor livery. The locomotive has now returned to its original rose-silver color scheme. In recent months, other Beacon Rail locomotives, including 185 597 (HSL Gold), 185 600 (HSL Brown), and 185 601 (HSL Nightrider), have also lost their special liveries. (sw)
[passenger] Milano-Paris trains resume as Frejus line returns to service
After a 19-month suspension, train services on the Fréjus railway line between Italy and France have finally resumed. The route had been disrupted since 27 August 2023 due to a landslide, bringing cross-border rail travel to a halt. Service restoration began with SNCF Voyages Italia’s TGV InOui on 31 March, followed by Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa 1000 on 1 April. Notably, the first Trenitalia-operated journeys were the Frecciarossa 9292 from Milan to Paris, operated by ETR 400 No. 31, and the Frecciarossa 9281 from Paris to Milan, operated by ETR 400 No. 23. This long-awaited reopening marks a significant step in reconnecting the two nations by rail. (lp)
