Since December 2024 Rostock’s 445 005 and 010 in red are helping out their green-grey counterparts in Kiel. These are second class only, which sets them apart from the green Twindexx. As the transport-contract states, that a specific amount of 1st class seats have to be available, DB Regio got creative. 1st class icons and a yellow line on the outside have been added, the interior stayed the same. [passenger] Pesa units for RegioJet will soon go into operation
Already on the first of April the new Pesa Elf electric units, which are intended for operation in the PID system in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, will be put into operation. The units were supposed to start running in December, but the manufacturer failed to deliver and approve them. With the arrival of the new units, the operation of the new urban line in Prague will start. (mp)
[locomotive] RegioJet finds ETCS supplier after six years
Czech private operator RegioJet has awarded a tender for the supply of on-board ETCS units for its upgraded 362 series locomotives, which are currently undergoing dualisation from DC locomotives. The winner is ČMŽO-elektronika, which will supply the on-board units manufactured by Siemens in cooperation with HMH. The value of the contract is CZK 155 million (EUR 6.2 million). (mp)

[passenger] Koleje Mazowieckie will modernise its fleet with 20 new units
Koleje Mazowieckie will upgrade its fleet of units with EMUs and DMUs. The suppliers will be Stadler, which will supply the operator with 14 Flirt 3 electric units at a cost of EUR 159.4 million. They are to be co-financed by European funds. Total of 8 diesel units will be supplied by domestic manufacturer Pesa Bydgoszcz, the value of the contract is EUR 55.5 million. Gemini, chaired by Lord Berkeley, plans to compete with Eurostar by running trains between London, Paris, and Brussels, with more routes in development. It has engaged with industry stakeholders for two years and applied for access to Eurostar’s maintenance depot. Other competitors include Evolyn and Virgin Group. Eurostar currently holds a monopoly, but efforts are underway to expand rail connectivity. (lp)

Pesa keeps producing new Gama locomotives for CargoUnit. After a series of 10 and 20 locomotives, work is now underway on a third order of new locomotives for this Polish leasing company. Recently, 111Ed-113 and 111Ed-114 were spotted during test runs. These are new Gama no. 42 and 43 for CargoUnit. (sw)

[passenger] ZSSK announced the largest tender in its history
Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko has decided to tackle the modernisation of its fleet of long-distance trains by launching a tender for the delivery of 15 EMUs with a minimum speed of 200 km/h and a capacity of 550 seats, of which 75 in first class. The contract, worth more than €645 million, will also include the maintenance of the units for a period of 10 years. The operator plans to deploy the units on the Košice-Bratislava-Vienna line, subject to additional approval in Hungary and the Czech Republic. This is financially the largest tender in the history of ZSSK. (mp)
