The Alstom Prima 6000 was a groundbreaking locomotive concept introduced in 2003 by Alstom’s factory in Charleroi. Designed as a multi-system engine, it could operate under all four voltage systems commonly used across Europe. Its standout feature was its 6000 kW power output, significantly higher than the standard 4200 kW of SNCF’s freight units. The Prima 6000 was Alstom’s ambitious answer to competing models like Siemens’ EuroSprinter and Bombardier’s Traxx.
