In February 2018, the Lazio Region proudly unveiled an ambitious plan: a fleet of shiny new trains to transform the Rome-Lido di Ostia and Rome-Viterbo railways. These lines, not part of Italy’s national rail network, were promised a much-needed renaissance. Fast-forward six years, no new trains – those long-awaited trains may never arrive. What went wrong?
