It was supposed to be a successful locomotive but has not fulfilled its expectations. As a result, Bombardier Transportation, now part of Alstom, has had to leave the market for multi-system locomotives largely to rival Siemens. Yet, Alstom’s takeover gave the project new energy (and technical solutions). The oldest locomotives, proto-locos 188 001-006, now six years old, remain crucial under the new owner to bring the Traxx 3 MS project to a successful conclusion. Where are they now?
