After dedicating more than one train to the Giro d’Italia, Trenitalia Tper also pays tribute to the Tour de France on one of its ‘Rock’ EMUs:
On 03.06.2024, ETR 521 002, dedicated to the ‘Grand Boucle,’ was unveiled at Bologna Centrale station. The train is now yellow and black, with the latter colour creating the Trenitalia Tper logo on both fronts. On the sides are stylized figures of three famous Italian bicycle racers of the past, Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, and Marco Pantani, with their signatures and the Tour de France logo.
The reason for this partnership between realities of two different countries can be found in the first stages of the race, which take place in Italy with the ‘Grand Départ’ from Florence:
- Stage 1 (29/06): Florence – Rimini (206 km);
- Stage 2 (30/06): Cesenatico – Bologna (200 km);
- Stage 3 (01/07): Piacenza – Turin (229 km);
- Stage 4 (02/07): Pinerolo – Valloires (138 km).
The ETR 521 002 was delivered on 10.09.2020 to Trenitalia Tper in Emilia Romagna region as follows:
