It is time for the finale, ICE4’s finale. Below, you see the latest and final ICE4 for Deutsche Bahn leaving the Wegberg-Wildenrath test centre, where it was commissioned:

You see ICE4 train no. 137 alias 9237 – with end cars 6812 and 7812 237. It is a seven-car train of which, unsurprisingly, 37 have been built:

  • 37x 7-car trains = unit 9201-9237
  • 50x 12-car trains = unit 9001-9050
  • 50x 13-car trains = unit 9451-9500
  • two spare end cars

Of the 12- and 13-car trains, around 35 units have been fitted with a 265 km/h speed limit (250 km/h is standard).

Update 19.03.2024: The official presentation and naming ceremony…

…took place on 19.04.2024 at Berlin Hauptbahnhof. 9237 was named ‘Spree’ after the German river. The 137th train was delivered on time, quite an achievement for the project with a total value of around EUR 6 billion, the largest procurement programme in DB’s history. In total, Siemens and subcontractor Bombardier/Alstom built over 1,500 carriages with around 105,000 seats.

The seven-car trains are mainly used between Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia, but also between Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Salzburg and Klagenfurt.
