[passenger] New Alstom Coradia Max for LNVG completes its first test drive

The delivery of new double-deck EMUs for LNVG has been delayed. Not 34, but only ten trains will be ready by mid-December 2024. But there is progress, and the first test drive is a fact:

The first images of the new double/single deck trains for LNVG appeared on social media during the past months. On 29.02.2024, LNVG itself published a short video of a 6-car unit completing its first test meters in Salzgitter, where it has been handed over to the engineering team for validation tests. The video also shows the interior of the train:

As envisaged, the new Coradia Max has a blue body with a yellow lower band and a white upper band. The access doors are also yellow. Remarkable is that the train in the video has no technical markings and no identification whatsoever. No numbers at all.

LNVG will introduce the new trains in December 2024, but only on line RE8 (Bremerhaven – Hannover) and as a reinforcement between Bremen and Hannover. The former Coradia Streams HC for the RE1 and RE9 will follow only in December 2025. The current fleets will keep on running as long as needed. LNVG has not yet selected an operator for the contract.

According to Alstom, the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic are the leading causes of the delay.
