A cherry red train peaking around the corner. During a visit of representatives to CAF’s factory in Beasain, which was about the production start of trains for Renfe/FEVE, a Civity Nordic for Sweden stole the show (for us):

What you see is a unit for the contract CAF closed in 2021 with AB Transitio of Sweden for 28 new trains to be operated in the regions of Kalmar, Jönköping, Blekinge, and Kronoberg (regional network Krösatågen). The order is valued at EUR 294.7 million, and Transitio, who will also be the fleet owner, handles its financing. The trains will be leased to the regions mentioned above, providing them to railway operators for passenger services. Delivery of the vehicles was scheduled to start at the end of 2023 but is delayed.
The contract covers the delivery of 28 trainsets, including associated services and equipment – there will be:
- 20x EMUs;
- 8x BMUs (bi-mode multiple units: combustion + electric).
There is also an option to deliver 26 further trainsets (19 EMUs + 7 BMUs). Euromaint will be responsible for the maintenance.
