With the official authorization of the new Talgo Avril for Renfe being granted in 2023, driver tests are now in full swing. At Renfe and its subsidiary Avlo, preparations have started for entry into commercial service.
In February 2024, Spanish transport minister Óscar Puente announced commercial service would commence on 31.03.2024 if all tests were successful. The first trains, designated class 106, were outshopped back in 2020. Renfe expects 30 sets over the coming years, with 20 going to its AVE brand and 10 to its Avlo subsidiary.
