In a country famous for its ‘Werbeloks’, SBB’s regional EMUs usually remain relatively untouched. However, SBB and the Zurich Canton Transport Authority (ZVV) have sought to bring a pop of colour to its fleet.

SBB’s RABe 514 015 has received a new livery, promoting the ZVV’s new corporate identity. Under the motto ‘Gemeinsam Vorwärts’ or ‘Together forwards’, the colourful livery has also been applied to a Zurich tram and trolleybus in Winterthur (CH). 1100 m2 of special foil and 540 man-hours were needed to wrap the entirety of the unit. SBB has stated that the artwork will remain for about 4 to 5 years.

The RABe 514, or ‘DTZ’, were built between 2005 and 2009 as part of the Siemens Desiro family. The 61 four-car units are mainly used on the extensive Zurich S-Bahn network.

Raphael Tapernoux (check out their Instagram!) had the chance to catch the unit near Horgen (CH) on 09.09.2023:
