After ordering 135 of Hitachi Rail’s tri-mode Masaccio units, Trenitalia started deploying these trains in various regions nationwide. Such BDEMUs have entered service on regional connections in Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Lazio, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Calabria. For the latter region, Trenitalia is working on a second version:
