The Finnish Railways (VR) awarded Škoda Transtech, the Finnish Škoda Transportation subsidiary, a CZK 600 million (€23,4 million) contract to supply a further seven double-deck restaurant cars. The cars will be built at the Škoda Transtech factory in Kajaani in Finland. They should enter service in 2021-2022 on the routes Helsinki – Turku and Helsinki – Tampere.
The restaurant cars, suitable for speeds up to 200 km/h, have an aluminium body and comply with TSI safety standards. They are pressure-tight and excel in thermal insulation to operate in Scandinavian winters with temperatures as low as -35°C.
